500 yrd swim TT

8:32. I think that's a little slow for me - felt like I was moving pretty good and had power, but you can't argue with the stopwatch. My turns were not great, but then again they never are.

  1. Turns, wow - that has always been on my list of things to learn. I am not that advanced and touch the wall then turn around and swim back

    Good time!

Think of a flip turn like doing a summersault. Also a good way to practice flip turns is going to the center of pool & do summersaults. At my master swim WOD we practice this every once in a while. It has paid off for me in addition to having a better streamline. I am also trying to work on not taking my first stroke until I reach the flags. In order to do that you need to have a good flip turn coupled with a great streamline.

  3. I don't practice turning due to the fact that I have yet to do a triathlon where that is a useful skill. When I swam in High School touch and go turns were not allowed. I took over 20 years off from swimming and the one thing that seems to be taking forever to get back is a decent flip turn. The only reason I want to practice it is because it is nice to see the times comes down - great for the ego.
