PR - kind of

Today was a 5k for time. I don't breathe well running in the cold and cars have been a problem at night anyway so I went to LAF to run on the treadmill. I warmed up for a mile and then stretched real good. I decided to run the first mile conservative to see if I could get into a rhythm and perhaps pick the speed up as I went. I generally take the first mile out too hard. My beginning pace was 7.5 mph (8 min pace).

The first mile went pretty good, but I did not feel that had a significant amount more in me when I got to that first mile so I kept the pace even. What I didn't want to happen is to increase the pace just to have to take it back down. When I got to 2.1 I notched it up a tenth. When I saw 2.6 I notched it up another tenth. I did the same at 2.85 and then brought it up to 8 mph at mile 3. The treadmill gave me a time of 24:30 which is about 9 seconds away from my outdoors race conditions PR. I believe the treadmill getting up to speed is at least that 9 seconds. It's not officially a PR, but it's the best I have done on a treadmill.
